Product Description

2 ½ years ago, a group of local residents from Newcastle East set out to build a community garden in an underutilized part of the Foreshore Park, next to the Carriage Shed. With a grant from Newcastle City Council, the very generous help received from Ecoflex Tyre Constructions, and the enthusiastic support of local residents, Sandhills has become a beautiful garden sanctuary, supplying residents and visitors with herbs and vegetables.  Of course, we use no pesticides or artificial fertilisers in our gardening!

The addition of a sensory garden, made possible through a grant from a local disability group, Leapfrog ability, provides visitors – including the visually impaired -with an opportunity to experience the aromas of a wide variety of scented plants and herbs.

The concept of these gardens has been designed to encourage the community to ‘pop in’ take what you need and leave the rest for other locals. It is always open and is constantly looking for new members!

The Sandhills Community Garden is next to the Carriage Sheds in Foreshore Park and is open all hours. Sandhills is a beautiful garden sanctuary, supplying residents and visitors with herbs and vegetables, and no pesticides or artificial fertilisers are used.
