New tank promises water secure future
Randwick Community Organic Gardeners point out their new 22,000 litre rainwater tank.

For irrigation, the community garden is entirely rainfed - no city water. The large plastic tank improves the security of the gardeners' water supply by collecting water falling on the roof of the adjacent racing stable buildings.
The gardeners funded the purchase of the tank themselves. The earlier tank the gardeners relied upon can be seen to the side of the new one.
A pipe with three taps is to be stalled to deliver water to different parts of the garden. At present, gardeners fill watering cans from the tank's outlet. Although this might seem laborious, the use of water cans is efficient in that it delivers water directly to the plants, wasting none in the process.
Sweet harvest

Kristina, a medical researcher by day and a Randwick Organic Community Gardener the rest of the time, is proud of the large, succulent and tasty strawberries she grown in her allotment.

It is hoped the project will include growing of fruit and vegetables, planting native trees, composting and innovative techniques such as vertical gardens.
