WATER DROPWORT/ WATER CELERY/ WATER PARSLEY

Botanic name

  • Oenanthe stolinifera

Growth form

  • perennial
  • small-leaved creeper to 60 centimetres in height with leaf shape similar to that of celery

Edible part

  • leaf shooting from creeping stem
  • eaten raw or cooked

Cultivation

  • likes frost-free microclimate
Propogation
  • from root division
Growing:
  • plant with spacing of 12 centimetres
  • flood to several centimetres after plant starts to grow, leaving leaf above water surface
Caution:
  • could be invasive if escapes into streams.

Centre of diversity

  • South East Asia.
